In the Dyslexia world we often talk about goals, what our clients and their parents want to achieve or change in the year, where they decide to go on their journey to correct dyslexia. Goals are important. They are the ones that pull us towards an outcome, keep us doing the homework, the reading – even if we may be tired or overwhelmed. Goals are visions of an outcome that is greater than our current reality. Yet, sometimes families are sidetracked from these goals and ‘life is getting in the way of their vision’. “There was not enough time, energy or motivation to do the work” would probably sum up the most common excuses. Most people wonder where the time has gone – and yes, more than half of the Year 2015 is over. What has the year brought you so far? Has anything changed?
When I came across this article (below) by Gary Blair, it jolted me into a different mindset and I decided to post it too, in case you get inspired too:
Beyond the Half-Year Mark
We’re all playing a high stakes game of one and done, as you have exactly one life in which to do everything you’ll ever do. That’s why, it’s in your best interest to get serious and focus on results.
With the second half of the year now in play, I wanted to share a few thoughts about your year-to-date your results and overall performance.
1. Your results are a reflection of your self-esteem and demonstrate what you believe to be true about yourself and what you are capable of.
2. Your results showcase to the world the depth of your intellect, creativity and passion.
3. Your results scream volumes as to your ability to solve problems or perpetuate pain.
4. Your results tell the world how you talk about yourself even when no one’s around.
5. Your results inform everyone who’s watching what you do or do NOT do every single day.
6. The quality and quantity of your results directly impact your quality of life.
Your results are the natural consequence of your behavior and…
BEHAVIOR NEVER LIES.
EVERYONE delivers results, regardless of the nature of their actions. Some positive, and some negative.
A bank robber delivers results, as does a bank teller.
A person who refuses to work and goes on welfare gets results, as does the entrepreneur who works to provide stable employment opportunity for others.
The Pastor at a wedding delivered results, as does the Attorney who presides over a divorce.
This point is worth repeating, EVERYONE delivers results so let’s talk about yours.
The year is now 50% complete.
If you had ambitions of making $250,000 this year, you should NOW have $125,000 in the bag.
If you set a goal of paying down $20,000 in debt, you should be $10,000 lighter by now.
Are you on track with any of your goals or resolutions?
Have you surpassed your expectations?
Are you even close?
There is only ONE reason for under performance and…
IT’S YOUR OWN FAULT.
Your year-to-date results aren’t dependent upon your background, your company, your spouse, the economy, the latest bestseller on the self-help charts, or who’s sitting in the Oval Office.
Your results ARE dependent upon, one thing…YOU and your ability to deliver, and right now you have NOT delivered the goods.
It’s time to shine a flashlight to your life, acknowledge that your current strategies are NOT working, and wake up to the fact that if you continue along this line of behavior, your future is in serious jeopardy.
Your year-to-date results speak for themselves. You’ve had a full 6 months, which in anyone’s book is more than enough time to perform, to display your talents, and to show the world how good you really are.
ANSWER THIS QUESTION
If you’ve gotten this far, and can acknowledge that your results are not worth bragging about and that you are capable of being, doing and having so much more, then what are you going to do differently to redeem yourself and ensure bigger, better results in the THIRD QUARTER?
YOU cannot possibly believe that if you keep on doing things just as you’ve been that your results will somehow turnaround and improve.
As mentioned, your future is in serious jeopardy if you do not take corrective action…immediately.
