Why does the public still view Dyslexics like Aliens?


Why does the public still view Dyslexics like Aliens and fail to
realise their talents?

I think that comes down to education. There is very little awareness in
the general public, unless a member of their family is affected.
Teachers are not taught special education more than a few hours during
their training. Not knowing what they deal with, and being overwhelmed
with too many children and too many issues already, they cannot be
blamed for feeling frustrated with these children. They are not
allowed to use the ‘Dyslexic label’ either, at least here in
Australia, where officially, Dyslexia has been removed from the
diagnostic manuals…and replaced with a wide range of different
labels with lots of acronyms: ADD (attention deficit disorder), ADHD
(attention deficit hyperactive disorder), ODD (oppositional defiant disorder),
OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)…
